You can begin by contacting the American Payroll Association, founded in 1982 by payroll professionals for payroll professionals.  The association is run by a professional staff under the direction of the Executive Director, the member President, and Board of Directors.

The APA offers seminars, conferences and publications, as well as certification programs and certificate programs. These programs are the “prerequisite” you need to set yourself apart.   Do your research and take advantage of  this valuable resource.
