NATURE OF WORK:
This is responsible professional and administrative work in researching, identifying, writing and developing various public and private grant opportunities in an effort to generate new grant-funding sources and revenues for the City of Miami. This job is not routine, clerical, or ministerial in nature, and requires using independent judgment. Work involves researching potential funding sources and developing funding requests; may be directly responsible for preparing and filing grant applications to ensure the funding of various programs; or may be responsible for initiating and coordinating action to ensure the funding of various programs depending on assignment of the position; and disseminating information to the appropriate staff as it relates to upcoming funding opportunities; may be responsible for preparing ordinances and other legislative actions; reviewing contracts and enabling legislation enacted for accepting grants and preparing reports and correspondence as required. An individual in this position is expected to meet with staff from federal, state and local agencies as part of the advocacy and negotiation process. Depending on where a position of this nature is assigned, may include working with other City departments to plan, organize, and coordinate the writing of their specific grant applications. The position will be guided by and report to a Grants Coordinator or other senior level staff member in this endeavor. An individual in such a position should have knowledge of management principles and their application to areas of assignment; a comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and municipal legislation pertaining to grant requirements and grant funded programs; knowledge and ability to research information concerning potential funding resources; should posses excellent writing skills and must be able to effectively work under pressure and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E) may be utilized upon application, however prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented to the Department of Employee Relations. Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Public or Business Administration, Mass Communication or related field. Applicants must demonstrate in detail on the job application form a minimum of 2 years of experience in grant writing. Contract administration and/or legislation development experience highly preferred. Master's degree preferred. OR Equivalent combination of training and experience beyond an Associate's degree.

DOCUMENTATION REQUIREMENTS:

Department of Defense that demonstrate possession of a combat campaign/expeditionary medal by the closing date. If veteran-s preference is being claimed, questions related to military service must be answered on the application form. To receive disabled veteran-s preference, proof of a permanent service-connected disability or a current (less than 1 year old) letter of disability from the Department of Defense or Veteran-s Affairs that indicates the percentage of disability must be submitted with application. Prior to employment, successful completion of a background investigation will be required, and depending upon the type of position a medical examination may be required.
