Jobing Description
The role of the Community Relations Specialist IV, under the direction of the President and in collaboration with the Executive Director – Family Resources Foundation, is to create an annual Communications Plan designed to promote the agency in a favorable, accurate and compelling way as to generate long-term interest and commitment from the community, especially business, media and community leaders by securing and maximizing opportunities for public relations, marketing, outreach and advocacy.

Communications Plan: Coordinate a collaborative effort to secure input and to write the Communications Plan including a publications calendar. Schedule monthly planning reviews with the President, the Executive Director – Family Resources Foundation and others whose input may be required. Update the plan quarterly. Regularly communicate the plan and relevant due dates to persons with plan assignments.
Media Relations:
oMeet and establish on-going relationships with media contacts, vendors, industry writers and others who can assist in the promotion of Family Resources and the positions it advocates.
oIdentify opportunities, and as authorized, prepare and seek placement of public relations or advocacy features, “expert quotes”, op-eds, letters to the editor or interviews on behalf of agency.
oDraft public service announcements and press releases and distribute upon approval of the President.
oMonitor print and designated electronic media for information on Family Resources, its leadership, donors, board members as well as relevant information on state legislators, county and city elected officials. Clip or otherwise retain. Advise appropriate staff.
oPrepare and maintain supply of press kits.
oIdentify and recommend social media sites that Family Resources should monitor and those that it should regularly contribute to. Coordinate or personally prepare those contributions. Provide feedback on that which is learned through monitoring identified sites.
Community Events:
o Prepare President by making advance contact with event or meeting organizers to confirm details, obtain background information on event, secure names, pronunciation and biographies of other key attendees and prepare event/meeting briefing Maintain and schedule use of the agency display.
Communication Vehicles:
oIn collaboration with the Executive Director – Family Resources Foundation, prepare and supervise maintenance and distribution of publications calendar for agency newsletter, annual report, website and other primary communications and development collateral materials, both electronic and print.
oInternal Newsletter: Coordinate and publish information through the monthly internal newsletters by soliciting articles and other materials for inclusion. Prepare content as may be necessary to ensure all required sections are included. Layout each issue. Secure content approval from the President. Coordinate printing and distribution.
oExternal Newsletter and Annual Report: Propose and write informational or feature articles for placement in the agency’s external newsletters. As requested by the Executive Director – Family Resources Foundation, collect and format data from appropriate internal resources.
oAgency Flyers: Maintain and monitor the inventory of flyers. Personally view and monitor the agency flyer displays at each program location to ensure adequate supply and appropriate display. Order from printer when inventory drops below established minimum levels.
oFact Sheets: Create the “fact sheet” formats. In collaboration with the Grants Assistant, collect relevant data, prepare copy and otherwise prepare specific fact sheets for use by speakers and for inclusion in Community Relations and other similar kits.
o As assigned, photograph or coordinate photography for internal events, events sponsored by Family Resources or as assigned events at which Family Resources is represented.
oAttend required agency meetings and trainings.

Skills / Requirements
1.Bachelor’s degree in business, communication or directly related field. Coursework in graphic design.
2.At least three years experience in public relations and marketing with demonstrated success in community relations and media relations for a nonprofit organization.
3.Advanced computer skills, including desktop publishing (Indesign preferred), photo publishing, html inscription or web-based software equivalent, MS Office and specialized database management programs.
4.Intermediate photography skills.
5.Exceptional time management and organizational skills, initiative, flexibility and ability to work on multiple tasks individually or in collaboration with others.
6.Ability to influence others through the oral and written presentation of information via phone, email, written documents or in person, in both formal and informal styles.
7.Ability to cultivate, develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a groups and individuals who come from a variety of professional, economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
8.Ability to develop, analyze and apply public relations strategy.
9.Ability to proof read and edit materials for content and presentation.
10.Ability to manage every level of a project to its successful completion.
11.Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment.
12.Ability to present a positive image and communicate effectively via the telephone and in person.
13.Ability to lift equipment, up to 40 lbs., used in performing job responsibilities.
14.Travel locally with occasional travel within the state.
15.Ability to work flexible hours and on weekends.
16.Ability to pass background clearance.
17.Valid Florida’s driver’s license, safe driving record and proof of insurance.
