Jobing Description

This is a permanent part time position with generalized recreation work with the Parks and
Recreation Department in the development and implementation of City recreation programs.

Work involves responsibility for planning and leading recreation activities such as tournaments,
dances, trips, special athletics and other activities. Hours vary depending on events scheduled.
Most include evening hours at various locations. The employee exercises initiative and
independent judgment gained through prior experience in the field for which employed.
Administrative supervision is received from the Recreation Manager who reviews work for
attainment of desired recreational objectives.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
* Leads recreation programs planned by the Recreation Division including camps, classes, arts
and crafts, adult and youth activities, athletics, special events and related special programs
requiring organizational skills.
* Demonstrates and explains techniques, procedures, materials, and equipment associated with
the community recreation program.
* Performs related work as required.

Skills / Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
* Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, procedures and techniques of a wide variety of
recreational activities.
* Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of public relations,
including an understanding of the current activities which make up a community recreation
program.
* Ability to work with and obtain the cooperation of civic groups and the general public.
* Ability to prepare and submit reports and program proposals.
* Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
Experience of a progressively responsible nature in directing a recreational program; high school
senior with one year experience, or any equivalent combination of paid experience and training.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
* Florida license required with ability to obtain a Florida Class "D" Commercial Driver License
within 60 days.
* Must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
* Must be physically able to operate office and communication equipment, possess visual,
auditory, and oral acuity and the ability to lift up to 35 pounds. The position requires periods of
sitting, standing, bending, stooping and walking.
