Characteristicsof Position:

This isprofessional intervention work in a JAC setting of a human services agencyproviding alcohol, drug abuse, mental health, juvenile justice or otherservices. Duties include spending a majority of time screening clientsfor diversion programs. This is a fulltime position at the Juvenile Assessment Center (JAC) located in Bartow,Florida.

Pre-requisiteRequirements:

  • HighSchool Diploma plus two years of experience working with youth.

  • Bachelor'sDegree preferred.

  • Must possessa valid Florida Driver's License, industry accepted driving history andmaintain vehicle insurance required by the State of Florida.

  • All ACTS,Inc. employees must be able and willing to work when expected to accommodateprogram and/or agency needs, participate in the agency's Quality ImprovementProgram and attend all assigned/required trainings, practice on-the-job safetyat all times, and demonstrate the ability to communicate and work with othersand be respectful of peers, supervisors, clients, guests, etc. If required bycontract or administrative rule, must fully participate in NAPPI or DJJ PAR(crisis intervention) training and able to apply same to work setting.

Supervision: Work is performed under thedirection of the Program Supervisor, Director or Administrator. This positiondoes not provide supervision to others.

Scope ofResponsibility: Conductsinterviews to assess social, legal, medical, psychological and educationalneeds of client; provides casework services to assist clients in obtainingsocial, educational and vocational goals. Engages clients to talk and communicates empathically about theiraddiction or mental illness, medications and recovery to promote understandingof their illness/illnesses and hope for recovery.

CoreResponsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Ensurethat Detention and Diversion Screening Units staff performs required DJJfunctions (Probation and Community Corrections Handbook and Quality AssuranceStandards)

  • Ensuresaccurate documentation and data entry relating to a juvenile's processingwithin JJIS Determines client's funding sources and completes documentation asnecessary.

  • Completeadmission and orientation documentation; may administer or interpretscreening/assessment instruments.

  • Developsplans, which include services to address needs according to assessment.

  • Shares inthe DJJ schedule for attending detentions hearings on weekends and Stateholidays

  • Attendcourt hearings and serve as an advocate for clients.

  • Performrelated work as requested / required.
