Characteristics of Position:
Thedirect service assistant provides client centered care by facilitating,participating and monitoring the treatment activities of clients with substancedisorders or co-occurring substance and psychiatric disorders.
Client Care - Effectively redirects seriousbehaviors involving risk of physical harm to self or others or the destructionof property; demonstrates positive engagements with clients reinforcingproactive behaviors; avoids coercive interventions from invitations to escalateor enter into conflict around insignificant behaviors.
Communications - Communicate with supervisor andestablished chain of command regarding daily operations and/or incidents;document all required information in a clear, legible, timely, concise andaccurate manner.
Relationship -Respectsauthority; models direct and clear communications with peers, clients andsubordinates; culturally aware and respectful of differences; establish ahelping relationship with the person receiving services by demonstratingempathy, respect, and genuineness in order to build trust.
Administrative - Precisely documents events andtransaction specific to job duties in approved Agency formats; understands andadheres to program operating procedures.
Technical - Utilizes Agency communication devicesand information technology as a business tool; proficient, as required, in theuse of Outlook, Datis, Train Caster, KIS and related IT systems and software applications.
Business Acumen - Adheres to Agency Policy.
Professional - Behaves ethically;presents a professional image inappearance, communications and demeanor; adheres to Agency scheduling Policy; followsprogram activity schedules; committed to personal professional development
Analytical - Assist in gathering informationabout basic and community living of the person receiving services to be used inthe assessment process; implement designated interventions and behavioralmanagement programs.
Leadership - Seek to participate in effectiveapproaches and training to enhance job skills; seek opportunities to mentor newstaff; ability to recognize unsafe behaviors, situations and environments; act tomaintain the safety and well-being of persons receiving services, staff andcommunity members.
High School or GED
All ACTS, Inc. employees must be able andwilling to work when expected to accommodate program and/or agency needs,participate in the agency?s Quality Improvement Program and attend allassigned/required trainings, practice on-the-job safety at all times, anddemonstrate the ability to communicate and work with others and be respectfulof peers, supervisors, clients, guests, etc. If required by contract oradministrative rule, must fully participate NAPPI (crisis intervention)training and able to apply same to work setting.

Supervision: Positionreports to the Program/Shift Supervisor as directed and does not provide supervision to others.
Adheres to agency model and documentation for admissions,treating persons with co-occurring disorders and orientation. Carries out tasksassociated withlaundry, a clean living environment, and ensures safety of clients receivingservices.
Demonstratesa general knowledge of program professional plan, program policies andprocedures. Performs and documents pre-admissionsearches, and informs designated personnel of bruises, etc. and searchesclients' property for contraband. Makes frequent rounds of facility to insureadequate safeguards and client safety are maintained. Facilitates/complieswith emergency preparedness' monthly mock scenario emergency drills.
Communicates regularly with clients,co-workers/shift supervisors and others as appropriate, and engages clients totalk about their mental illness and substance misuse. Observes clients forchanges in behavior, monitors activities of clients, motivates clients toparticipate in activities, and also guides and advises clients in theirpersonal adjustment utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques. Interprets theclient handbook for clients as needed; applies applicable rules and regulationsto clients.
Assists clients in preparing forcourt appearances or other outside activities, and implements supportive, psycho-educationaland recreational groups. Advises and guides clients on personal hygiene habits.Monitorsand tracks compliance with self-administered medication process if instructed.Oversees collection of urine specimen for drug screens and may complete andrecord vital signs as assigned. Assists clients ingathering/obtaining personal property when discharged.
Documents individual contacts, dailycase notes, incident and injury reports and grievances. Answers phones andprovides other administrative support as needed. Builds new case files and breaks down discharged client casefiles.
Performs related work as required/assigned.
