Light Equipment Operator

- General Description
This is semi-skilled work in the operation of Public Works equipment.
- Essential Functions
- May operate one or more of the following pieces of equipment: farm tractors, trucks less than 33,000 GVW, tractor mowers or other similar equipment.
- May occasionally operate gasoline-powered machinery as assigned.
- Washes, cleans and gives routine maintenance to equipment.
- May be assigned to operate heavier equipment on emergency, temporary or trainee basis.
- Performs related work as required.
- After hours emergency response as needed.
- Minimum Requirements
- Education, Training, and Experience:
Requires high school diploma or GED or specialized vocational training. Requires over one month and up to and including three months of experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Skills:
Must have a valid Florida CDL, Class A with N combination air brakes, or be able to obtain within 90 days of employment. Must have the physical ability to operate the assigned equipment and to perform the necessary manual labor tasks. Must be knowledgeable of the operating characteristics of light and medium road maintenance equipment and of traffic laws governing the operation of equipment.Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses 100PWB and 700B.

Basis of Rating: No written test is required. Applications will be carefully reviewed to assess each individual's qualifications. Selected persons will be interviewed to determine who will be hired for the job. The kind and length of related work experience, training and education shown on the application will be an important consideration in the screening process. Must successfully pass an employment reference check, criminal background check, physical examination and drug test.
