Job Description

The Department of Mathematics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach campus, invites individuals with a PhD in Statistics, Data Science or a related field to apply for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position.  The position starts Fall 2019 to support our growing interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Data Science within the Department of Mathematics and across campus.  The duties of the position include, but are not limited to, teaching upper level statistics and data visualization courses, mentoring graduate students in their research and undergraduate senior capstone projects.  Current curriculum initiatives provide a unique opportunity for the incumbent to support our growing research and industry partnerships.  Candidates with an interest and experience in collaborative applied data science are strongly encouraged to apply.
The Department provides the mathematical foundation for Embry-Riddle's degree programs as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Computational Mathematics and minors in Applied Mathematics and Computational Mathematics. Excellence in teaching is our priority and we are looking for professionals who are passionate about service to students, teaching, and the learning process.  Likewise, all tenured and tenure-track faculty members in the Department of Mathematics are expected to be active in research and scholarly production. Therefore, active involvement in scholarly activities, especially mentoring graduate students in project-based applied research is highly considered in the promotion and tenure process.   In keeping with Embry-Riddle's hands-on approach to a broad range of disciplines, the Department of Mathematics emphasizes research in areas such as high-performance computing, fluid mechanics, geographic information systems, weather forecasting, financial mathematics, bioinformatics, applications of data sciences, etc.


Required Qualifications:  
  • Ph.D. Degree (by the time of appointment) in Statistics, Data science or a related field with some teaching experience.
  • Proficiency in research/ teaching with R, Python, Tableau, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest to work on industrial projects.
