Job Description

City of Apopka is seeking a Planner II for its Apopka, Florida office.

Job Duties: Attention to detail in assisting the Community Development Department in conducting planning related research, preparation of reports, presentation of materials, field work and preparation, maintenance and update of elements of the Comprehensive Plan, Land Development Code, land use map, zoning map, site plan review and subdivision regulations; review of development plans to assure compliance with the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code. Review building and development permits and license applications. Work closely with staff from other departments to secure input from all departments to ensure that issues and projects are prepared and coordinated in a comprehensive fashion. Provide assistance and information to the public and development community on issues related to community development. May prepare special reports and studies related to annexation, economic development, or the City's Community Redevelopment Plan. Represent the City on regional or intergovernmental boards, as requested. Perform any other duties or tasks that may be assigned.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS:  

" Master's degree in Urban Planning or directly related field 

" Must have one (1) year of experience with a city, county or state governmental agency or private industry equivalence in each of the following:

o Comprehensive plans, zoning codes, and planning procedures; principles and practices of land planning and growth management; ordinances, resolutions; legal descriptions (including ability to write as well as verify legal descriptions and to draft site plans).

o Comprehensive Planning and other applicable laws pertaining to planning.

o Knowledge of the organization, functions and procedures of city government, including the principles and practices of planning and zoning.

o Ability to operate a personal computer and spreadsheet program, word processing program, and geographic information system (GIS) program.

o Write and read planning and construction development plans.

o Microsoft computer software such as spreadsheets, data processing, presentation, and other similar tools to communicate planning and zoning analysis and final reports.
