JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of the BA/BS Teacher is to serve in an educator capacity in teaching, instruction and guidance of students enrolled in various academic courses within the appropriate grade or academic level. The BA/BS Teacher classification is responsible for adhering to established curriculum standards for the particular course delivered and for complying with established instructional guidelines as established by the School District and educational systems appropriate to the course. Work includes course delivery, administration of tests (or equivalent course criteria), and the tabulation and submission of students’ final course grades. BA/BS Teacher’s perform essential functions as outlined herein according to the specific course or discipline of assignment and perform related work as directed.

- Development and implementation of individual education plans (IEP), as required by regulatory guidelines.
- Complete all programs and activities necessary to become and stay certified according to State of Florida DOE regulations, including the Professional Orientation Program or equivalent.
- Maintain and follow an annual school calendar, which will simulate the LCSB calendar.
- Maintain all records and reports and provide such reports to LCSB, supervisor or required by law (i.e. attendance, lesson plans, grades, testing, etc.).
- Supervise bus transportation, physical education classes, vocational programs, as directed by supervisor.

- Work with Center administration, site administration and clinical supervisor in coordination of counseling services for students.
- Share responsibility for disciplinary actions with program staff and report the action taken.
- Attend all team meetings, staff meetings, and staffing for those children assigned to the class.
- Provide specific classroom management as required.
- Work as an integral part of the team to provide academic assessment and educational recommendations, on an on-going basis.
- Communicate with school officials and other agencies when necessary to meet the students’ needs.
- Write and speak in a logical and understandable style, using appropriate grammar and sentence structure, and demonstrate a command of standard English, enunciation, clarity of oral directions, and pace and precision in speaking.
- Read, comprehend, and interpret professional and other written material.
- Recognize and demonstrate awareness of the educational needs of students who have limited proficiency in English and employ appropriate teaching strategies.
- Use and integrate appropriate technology in teaching and learning processes and in managing, evaluating, and improving instruction.
- Use diagnostic teaching and learning strategies that include consideration of each student’s learning styles, needs, and background.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain a positive, collaborative relationship with students’ families to increase student achievement.
- Recognize signs of tendency toward violence and severe emotional distress in students and apply techniques of crisis intervention.
- Recognize signs of alcohol and drug abuse in students and know how to appropriately work with such students and seek assistance designed to prevent future use.
- Recognize the physical and behavioral indicators of child abuse and neglect and know rights and responsibilities regarding reporting.
- Demonstrate the ability to maintain a positive environment in the classroom while achieving order and discipline.
- Demonstrate the ability to grade student performance effectively.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the value of, and strategies for, promoting parental involvement in education.
- Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion.

- Ability to climb, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, sit, and stand for long periods of time; walk; lift up to 25 pounds.

KNOWLEDGE AND JOB SKILLS: Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with departmental personnel, instructors and students. Knowledge of basic Lake County School District and Lifestream work policies and guidelines; knowledge of departmental (LAKE Academy) practices and guidelines. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Computer literate. Must possess initiative, dependability and accuracy skills. Must meet federal and state requirements regarding criminal records and abuse registry screenings; and be screened by the Lake County School Board personnel department. Knowledge of company and school district policies and procedures.
PERSONAL QUALITIES: Patience and high tolerance for frustration is essential. Initiative, dependability and accuracy are important. The ability to analyze situations and mange them in a proactive manner is helpful. Must be able to work with a minimum of direct supervision.
JUDGMENT/DECISION MAKING: Utilizes established corporate policies and procedures in making decisions. Uses sound judgment in meeting the responsibilities and performing the duties of the position.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education, the academic discipline being delivered or related field; supplemented by a demonstrated aptitude for working with children; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Must possess and maintain current Teaching Certification, and all necessary academic certifications for the discipline being delivered or currently working toward state requirements for teacher certification
- Two years experience in working with specials needs children preferred
- Experience with children having emotional disorders preferred
TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT: Completes all requirements according to Individual Training Plan within the first six months of hire and annually. Other training and/or professional development may be assigned due to evolution of programs.
