Program Co-Leader for Cancer Epidemiology

The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center located on the campus of the University of South Florida, Tampa, FL, is seeking an enthusiastic mid- or later career cancer epidemiologist to co-lead its thriving research program in cancer epidemiology. Candidates with a dynamic research program in the development or implementation of risk prediction models or clinical epidemiology including secondary analyses using large data sets are encouraged to apply.

The cancer epidemiology program is home to 26 full-time faculty engaged in impactful research across the full spectrum of cancer control, from prevention and early detection to biomarker-driven research on personalized approaches to cancer care. The overarching goal of the program is to reduce the cancer burden by identifying inherited and acquired determinants of disease development, progression and outcome and by translating findings into successful prevention interventions. Faculty interests span numerous cancer epidemiological research arenas including chemoprevention, nutrition, immunology, infection oncology, radiomics, screening and early detection, genetics/genomics, RNA and functional annotation, and personalized medicine covering a range of tumor types.

The Program Co-Leader will be a member of the scientific leadership team at Moffitt, with shared responsibility for guiding and facilitating research within the program as well as building collaborations with other programs and institutions, which is consistent with Moffitt's emphasis on intra- and inter-disciplinary collaborations. Program Co-Leaders also prepare the relevant sections of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) and represent the Program at the CCSG site visit.

Local resources for conducting research in cancer epidemiology include the wealth of clinical and scientific expertise across a spectrum of oncology-related disciplines, a large health and research data warehouse of clinical and outcome information on over 400,000 patients, opportunities to integrate into a multi-state affiliate network, several research centers of excellence, and excellent shared resources that include biostatistics, biomedical informatics, survey methods, and collaborative data services.

Successful candidates must have PhD or MD and relevant research and administrative experience. An active, funded research program in cancer epidemiology and a strong history of peer-reviewed funding and publication are also required. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated prior leadership and mentoring skills and have engaged in successful collaborative, multidisciplinary research. Appointment at the level of Associate / Senior Member requires a minimum of five years of experience at the Assistant / Associate Member level and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is tenure-earning. Moffitt is affiliated with University of South Florida and a University appointment is available as applicable. We offer competitive salaries and benefits, and generous start-up packages.

Tampa was recently named an "urban gem" and the "Best City in the Southeast" by Money magazine. Aside from the sunshine, beaches, and year-round outdoor recreation associated with the Gulf Coast of Florida, Tampa is a thriving metropolitan city with unique cultural attractions, low cost of living, and a high quality of life. Moffitt faculty members typically hold appointments in the Department of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida or in other university departments, as appropriate. Moffitt-based faculty members focus their efforts on research, with minimal expectations for formal teaching.

Questions regarding the position should be directed to: Peter Kanetsky, PhD, MPH, Chair and Program Leader, Cancer Epidemiology (Peter.Kanetsky@Moffitt.org). Review of applications will begin immediately.

Moffitt Cancer Center is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, or protected veteran or disabled status. We seek candidates whose skills, and personal and professional experience, have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and excellence.
