Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a CAD Designer 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL


The selected candidate will develop 2-D manufacturing drawings and assist in the development of 3-D solid models for aircraft support equipment.


Candidate will participate in the planning, layouts, drawing, and revision of detailed part, assembly, and installation engineering drawings from basic layouts, established references, and engineering data for aircraft Support Equipment, which includes mechanical and electrical equipment.


Candidate will have a working knowledge of design and analysis tools.  Basic drafting skills shall include advanced knowledge using solid modeling, N(x), Pro Engineer, CATIA or CAD based computer drafting software.  Requirement to complete details of major layout drawings which may be prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices.  Will participate in the preparation of specifications for parts, assemblies, and installations, and has knowledge of requirements for complete production detail drawings; contributes to design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations.


Candidate will be expected to have general frequent use of analysis tools, and to employ the application of general standards, principals, theories, concept and techniques to perform moderately complex tasks.  Solutions to a variety of technical problems of increasing scope are likely.  Work will be reviewed for soundness of technical judgment, overall adequacy and accuracy.  Applicant will contribute to the completion of milestones with specific projects.  Communication will be expected to inter organizational and outside contacts on routine matters.


The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.  Candidate must be able to collaborate closely with design engineers.





Basic Qualifications:


  • Bachelors Degree from and accredited university and 3 years experience with progressive responsibility in CAD and/or drafting.
  • Experience using CAD software in generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies.
  • An active Secret DoD clearance and ability to obtain SAR access to programs.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Three (3 ) years experience generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing of aircraft support equipment.
  • Experience developing drawings to GD&T standards.
  • Experience with process/procedure development, control, and improvement.
  • Strong communication skills including technical writing and verbal communication.
  • Experience with people leadership and/or customer interface role.
