Northrop Grumman is seeking an experienced composites/materials engineer. Responsibilities may include the following:


Performs root cause analysis of material failures, provides effective solutions to production composite issues. Generates test plans & reports. Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. Develops, analyzes and applies material properties and design allowables, processing processes and quality engineering specifications. Material analyses may include failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.








Basic Qualifications: 

Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university

with a minimum of 2 years of experience in design and fabrication of composite aerospace structures.  In lieu of 2 years of post-graduation experience a minimum of five years of composites fabrication and or design experience prior to earning BS degree coupled with BS degree will be accepted

Experience with repair processes for composite materials used in aerospace structures

Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain access to special programs

Preferred Qualifications:

BS or MS, Materials Science or similar

Experience with out of autoclave composites

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ability to collaborate in a team environment

Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/oraccomplishing them simultaneously

Ability to comprehend and analyze complex problems anddevelop solutions

Experience with military specs and standards.

Experienceinterfacing with a military customer.
