Job Description

Northrop Grumman AeronauticsSystems (NGAS) has an opening for a SoftwareEngineering Process Lead at the sector level reporting to the NGAS SoftwareCommunity of Practice (Software CoP) Lead Director; responsible for leading ageographically dispersed team to establish, model, maintain and assess forcompliance Software Engineering processes and practices for requirementsdevelopment and management, model based engineering, development, verificationand validation, and risk management.  This role will report directly tothe NGAS Software Engineering CoP Director.  The position is located in Melbourne, FL for the NGAS SoftwareCoP. 


This position reports to theNGAS Software Community of Practice (Software CoP) Lead Director and will leadprocess management related activities for more than 1,000 Software Engineersand Managers who work in four Centers of Excellence throughout the country. TheSoftware Engineering Process Lead works with very little direction, haswell-developed problem-solving skills, and has ability to work within a dynamicenvironment. The lead determines and develops solutions to unblock obstaclesand keep process team on track to delivery milestones.

Essential Functions:
  • Conduct the dayto day Software Community of Practice (SW CoP) activities for the SW CoPDirector

  • Stay up to dateon initiatives in the Software Development community and DoD Acquisitioncommunity which affect software development and recommend or initiate effortsto help keep Software Engineering in Northrop Grumman relevant

  • Chair theSoftware Engineering Process Group which is a group that:

    • Coordinates andmanages the Software Organizational Standard Processes

    • Establishesrelationships with the software process managers and leads at the NGAS Centersof Excellence (COE)

    • Facilitatesprocess alignment across CoE, CoPs and programs

    • Provides programsassistance in implementing standard processes

    • Aligns Softwareprocesses with process initiatives such as Agile and DevSecOps

    • Ensures Softwarerelated metrics are defined and reported at the sector, COE and program levels

  • Act as POC forsoftware processes to sector/company process initiatives such as AgileTransformation

  • Coordinate andmaintain the Software Standard tools baseline list with programs, the SW CoP,other CoPs and IT

  • Coordinate thedefinition, implementation and evolution of the software developmentenvironments/ DevSecOps and align with strategies such as the DoD's DigitalEngineering Strategy

  • Although notrequired to start, this position requires the ability to obtain and maintain aDOD Secret or Top Secret clearance as well as Program Special Access within areasonable amount of time, as determined by the company to meet its businessneeds.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)related field with at least 10 years' experience or a Master's Degree in STEMwith at least 8 years' or a PhD Degree in STEM with at least 5 year' ofexperience  

  • Five or more years of previous experience in process management
  • Working knowledge of each phase of the Software Development Life Cycle
  • Experience in teams using Agile Framework is required 
  • Experience in defining and improving software processes and streamliningprocesses

  • Must possess strong leadership skills
  • Must have ability to interface with a geographical distributed team
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret orTop Secret Clearance as well as Program Special access within a reasonableperiod of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs

Preferred Qualifications
  • Active DoD Secretor Top Secret level clearance

  • Five or moreyears of previous management experience as a Software Manager or Technical Lead

  • Five or moreyears of previous experience as a lead for process management

  • Familiarity withSystems Engineering processes, Program Management processes and SystemIntegration Test & Evaluation process

  • Certification forAgile, MBSE, and/or Software Professional Certification Program

  • Experience withdefining and reporting software metrics

  • Experience and/ortraining as a member of a CMMi Assessment team

  • Excellent leadershipand interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to interface with alllevels of employees and management

  • Experienceleading a team of software engineers in software development deliverables andprocesses

  • Knowledge ofsoftware development related tools and DevOps technologies such as Jenkins,Fortify, Ansible, Atlassian suite

  • Experiencedefining and providing software process metrics
