Job Description Summary
Strategically and with sophisticated skills lead a comprehensive residence life program including strategic planning, forecasting, student development, community building, issues resolution, crisis response, student conduct, supervision and coaching of professional and student staff, assessment and learning outcomes, policy development and implementation, facilities management, and collaborative projects and services with other university departments as an engaged and positive member of the leadership team of the Division of Student Affairs.
DUTIES & TASKS:
- Provide direction, development, evaluation, training, supervision, and motivation of Residence Life staff.
- Oversight of all Assistants/Resident Assistants, work-study employees, and the Staff Assistant for Residence Life.
- Overseen the coordination of, or assist in, the development and implementation of the RA manual, recruitment, selection(s), and subsequent training(s) of the Resident Assistants and other student staff.
- Participate in a rotating duty schedule with the ADRLs to provide emergency coverage on campus.
- Conduct regular and on-going staff development (monthly in-services, banquets, special recognition, etc.).
- Create, secure buy in, and implement comprehensive creative programming and community development models to include learning outcomes and assessment
- Develop and implement, or assist with, a successful programming model for a Catholic, co-educational University keeping in mind issues of wellness, diversity, and pertinent student concerns.
- Assess residents’ needs and assist Assistant Directors in the development of challenging and diverse programs within the halls.
- Encourage and initiate positive interaction among residents, faculty, and administration.
- Teach and model community and personal responsibility.
- Oversee the tracking of Residence Hall programming throughout the year and recommending specific initiatives when needed
- Oversee the tracking and planning of all programming budgets implemented by the Residence Life.
- Work with staff to ensure expectations are clear to students and that behavior not in keeping with expectations is addressed in a clear, compassionate, learning oriented way
- Director is responsible for timely and professional adjudication of upper level student conduct hearings.
- Communicate and enforce the University and Residence Hall policies and the ideology behind such policies.
- Actively demonstrate sensitivity to the concerns and developmental needs of all Saint Leo students.
- Assist residents and staff with personal, social, and academic concerns through proper advising, counseling, and referrals.
- Provide leadership and direction for the orientation and adjustment of residents with special needs such as freshmen, transfers, international students, non-traditional students, or those with physical or mental challenges.
- Serve in a leadership role and respond appropriately to crisis and emergency situations involving students and staff members.
- Strategically lead a comprehensive residence life program including strategic planning, forecasting, student development, community building, issues resolution, crisis response, student conduct, supervision and coaching of professional and student staff, assessment and learning outcomes, policy development and implementation, facilities management, and collaborative projects and services with other university departments
- Oversee the occupancy for entire campus, room assignments, meal plan assignments, billing, housing selection, facilitate break closings, and manage appropriate databases.
- Coordinate facilities management including: organization of key boxes, managing work order process, and being knowledgeable of facilities projects to provide a quality living environment.
- Coordination of all Residence Life publicity, marketing, and written communication.
- Serve as a competent and professional liaison to all offices and divisions of the University, including Academic Affairs, Security, Dining Services, and Facilities.
- Keep supervisors informed and up-to-date on all information and pertinent projects
Major Projects and Responsibilities:
- Create and implement a comprehensive residence life system that focuses on community development, student engagement and growth, staff morale and excellence, learning objectives, customer services, innovation, and collaboration with others.
- Manage residence life including supervision of the staff and support for students residing on campus.
- Manage program development, budget management and facilities.
- Provide leadership for campus crisis management including participating in on-call rotating duty coverage.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Demonstrate commitment to and experience in establishing residential learning communities and student leadership development.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university preferably in Student Affairs or a related field
- Five to seven years of progressive experience in Residence Life and/or Housing
- Will need to be able to stand for extended periods
- Will need to be able to walk up/down multiple flights of stairs
