The incumbent in this position performs duties as an instructional team member and acts in an advisory role to students. The incumbent plans, organizes, consults and provides learning experiences for Ahfachkee School students, including providing each student with the knowledge and skills to be successful students. The incumbent in this position teaches children and young students with disabilities independent life skills, basic literacy, communication and math using or modifying the general education curriculum to meet the student's individual needs. Early identification of a child with special needs is an important part of the ESE Teacher's responsibilities, since early intervention is essential in educating children with disabilities. Bachelor's or advanced degree is required. A specialization in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education or Special Education K-12, is required. Must possess or have the ability to secure a Professional level Florida teaching certificate in Exceptional Student Education K-12. Must meet the requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher as defined by "No Child Left Behind" (NCLB) for the position held. Must be flexible and maintain a positive attitude. Must have the ability to appropriately communicate clearly with parents and children. Must have the ability to work a schedule that includes school events held on evenings, weekends and holidays.
