Job Description
This position is critical to the maintenance of structures and facilities within the Clewiston Field Station area of responsibility, which includes five counties. This position performs mechanical work associated with repair and maintenance of water control structures and gates, navigation locks, Stormwater Treatment Areas (STAs), and field station buildings and facilities.
 
Performs overhauls on water control gates and gearboxes.  Performs some welding including brazing torch work, cutting and fitting, arc welding layout and design. Utilizes hand tools, power tools, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment. Must be able to read and follow job specifications, blue prints and diagrams.
 
This position will require participation in the Pumping Operations Program.  Program participants will be required to successfully master and demonstrate competency in pump station operations and maintenance (diesel engine operations).  In addition, this position provides emergency management readiness and response during major storm events.
 
This position is subject to random mandatory drug and alcohol testing.
 
The Clewiston Field Station works 4-10 hour days; Monday - Thursday 6:30 am to 5 pm.
 
Employment Guidelines
High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of experience in structure and facility maintenance or mechanical repair.
 
Licenses
Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) without restriction to operate vehicle equipped with a manual transmission is required, or the ability to obtain within 3 months from date of hire and/or placement in job.
 
Ability to obtain certification in Rigging (one-time certification), Forklift Operations (re-evaluation every year), First Response-Oil and Chemical Spills, CPR and First Aid (re-certification every two years).
 
Ability to obtain pump station assistant status within 6 months from date of hire and/or placement in job and/or ability to obtain pump station operator status within 12 months from date of hire and/or placement in job.
 
Physical Requirements/ Working Environment
Regularly sets up, adjusts, controls, tests and operates equipment to complete assignments. Work environment may be hot and humid with no facilities. Moves or otherwise transports equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
 
Performs field work in general outdoor environment with regular exposure to unpredictable weather conditions; sun, heat, and rain. Overtime will be required based on weather and/or environmental conditions.
 
Due to the District’s response role and in the total scope of emergency management, this position may be, at times, required to provide support before, during and after major storm events and emergency situations, such as hurricanes or other declared emergencies.
