MAJOR FUNCTION: The Commercial Vehicle Driving Lead Instructor is a position housed at the Transportation and Logistics Center of Excellence near TCC’s main campus. The Instructor’s major function is to effectively lead the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program, creating an ideal learning environment, maintaining an appropriate balance of discipline, and be able to transfer knowledge to students. Provide a teaching environment (lecture, group, or Individual) targeting a diverse population resulting in the earning of a State of Florida Class ‘A’ Licensure. Serve as the lead instructor to educate and train students to gain skills to drive eighteen wheel commercial vehicles. Assist in providing curriculum/program development and coordination of advisory committees. Supervise and evaluate assigned staff members in order to maintain the daily operations of the instructional program. Assist in coordination and providing job placement assistance to students, staying abreast of evolving regulations within the industry. Assist in electronically maintaining budgeting and the needs of the program. Assist, when needed in the recruitment of students and marketing of the program, identifying community partnership and funding opportunities. Coordinate maintenance of truck and trailer records, scheduling maintenance, and maintaining vehicle registrations.

MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or its equivalent, possess a current state issued Class ‘A’ License and prior history of providing commercial vehicle driving training. Must have five years of full-time tractor-trailer truck driving experience, with at least one of the five years being within the last 24 months (providing commercial vehicle driving training within the last 24 months may substitute for the one year). Certified FLHSMV Third-Party Tester preferred. Must be able to become a Certified FLHSMV Third-Party Tester within three months. Also must be considered insurable.

SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS WILL DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING: Knowledge of Academic development. CDL training. Careers in commercial vehicle driving. Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of field and/or discipline. Organizational and interpersonal skills to lead and facilitate partnership activities with students, community groups, consortia, and colleagues within the college. Effective team member, flexible, with strong human relations skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Be self-motivated, self-directed and creative. Skilled in the use of a personal computer, use of the Microsoft Suite, and using the World Wide Web for word processing and information gathering. Develop and implement strategies to market and promote the Commercial Vehicle Driving Program. Coordinate the delivery of adult education program instruction. Design instruction to achieve student learning outcomes as defined by the college and specific departments and programs. Conduct class meetings with professionalism and enthusiasm that promotes respect for the discipline and education. Use appropriate technologies and media to enhance learning. Maintain confidentiality of student records according to FERPA guidelines. Maintain necessary educational credentials and professional skills appropriate to the teaching assignment.
